Possible Interactions
- Alcohol and other depressants may increase the effects of sertraline and may depress respiration and blood pressure.
- Anticonvulsants: sertraline may decrease the effectiveness of anticonvulsants and lower the seizure threshold.
- Antihistamines: sertraline may increase the effects of antihistamines including side effects.
- Digitalis: sertraline may increase the risk of sideeffects.
- Lithium: sertraline could increase the levels of lithium in the blood leading to toxicity.
- MAOIs (MonoAmine Oxidase Inihibitors): sertraline taken with MAOIs is extremely dangerous and can lead to severe or fatal reactions including very high blood pressure, seizures, tremors, coma, extreme headaches, nausea, among other unpleasant side effects.
- Other Antidepressants: combining antidepressants will likely increase the side effects and increase the effects of the combined drugs.
